Autumn Newsletter 2008

Schedules

The schedules for this winter and summer 2009 are now available.

Please let us know if your chosen week has not been picked and we will see what can be done, only a few dates are inflexible and we are always willing to try to fit in with the busy lifestyles of everyone today.

New theory course

There is an exciting new course for the theory side, a two day Basic Navigation and Safety course aimed at the complete beginner as well as the day sailor who is keen to have more input into the running of the boat.

Updates

Now is the time to decide if you need a Radio course, have you recently installed a VHF/DSC on your boat and you took your Radio course some years ago?

Check your First Aid certificate; remember they are only valid for three years? We rarely use first aid on a daily basis and become rusty when the need arises.

Looking ahead

It seems strange to be thinking of summer 2009 already, but some people already have, one place already booked on our “Try Racing” Cowes week.

This summer was a good one for Cowes Sailing School, see the Cowes week write up for more detail there, the weather was particularly variable with more people experiencing heavy weather than usual and all benefiting from the experience.

Bare Boat Charter in the Adriatic

As yet another August gale rolled in to upset our planned holiday crossing the English Channel to France, we decided to try somewhere new. This resulted in a week in the Adriatic chartering a Bavaria 35 match from Adria Services in Isola, Slovenia. Our introduction to Adria Services was excellent and they have bases in Slovenia, Croatia, Monte Negro, Greece, Turkey and Malta. So if you are looking for warmer sailing and somewhere to try out your skills we recommend that you take a look at this company.
