The fundamental base for skippering and navigational skills. The art of navigation is explained, all the mystery of the chart table and nautical terms unfold. The student experiences the delight of understanding basic chartwork, tides, meteorology and collision avoidance rules are explained as well as rudiments of being a skipper in local waters.

This is a theory course for those who have already acquired the basics of navigation and seamanship. The level of knowledge required prior to starting the course is that of the Day Skipper theory shorebased course. Designed to enhance the skills and the level of the candidate's awareness and ability; particularly for undertaking longer passages and dealing with less favourable weather.

The Basic Navigation and Safety course is a two day course aimed at the new sailor, power boater, fisherman and RIB driver as well as those experienced keel boat sailors.
